Ecolise; encouraging community-led action in one common network

the Transition network, ecovillages, permaculture and local governments in Europe are now joining hands in their efforts to build pathways to a sustainable future though community-led action.

The newly constituted european coalition ECOLISE had its first bigger “face to face” meeting and General Assembly in Freiburg, Germany February 6-8th. More than 30 organisations took part in the meeting, and the number of registrated member organisations increased from 25 to 35.

Among the new members we find several of the european national permaculture associations, which creates more balance within Ecolise where the Transition- and ecovillage networks formerly constituted the bigger part of the organization.

REALS purpose and ambitions are very similar to Ecolises, and the projectgroup has therefore decided to join hands with the wider European network which Ecolise represents. REALS contributes by connecting grassroot movements, initiatives and expertice found in the Baltic area with the wider European context.

Background

Ecolise is a coalition of organisations engaged in promoting and supporting local communities across Europe in their efforts to build pathways to a sustainable future.

The members of ECOLISE include international, national and sometimes regional networks of community-based initiatives, as well as other bodies engaged in European-level research, training, communications or other activities to support community-based action on climate change and sustainability.

By bringing these organisations together, ECOLISE seeks to establish a common Europe-wide agenda and a platform for collective action.
